If you could do something you have never done before, what would it be?

I would go on a solo trip to a different country all by myself, no friends, family, travel guide, nada.

The idea scares me. What if I get kidnapped, raped, murdered?

I have heard stories of women traveling alone, their life changing experiences, but I always wonder how brave are they and their loved ones who must be worried sick of any untoward incident occurring. And then one read news of how for some of them it didn’t go as planned. It turned into a nightmare when they went with a guy they met on Tinder and went to his hotel, or how someone drugged their water and took advantage.

The world is indeed scary. I wonder if the thrill, adventures of solo travel outweigh the risks?

And one might say why travel alone, when you can travel with a company?

Why do people jump out of planes, swim with sharks, climb Mt. Everest?

To overcome fear

Fear keeps us safe from making irrational decisions. But it can also push us deep into our comfort zones, preventing self growth at times. Should I date him, what if he too cheats on me? Relationship fear. Should I put my life savings into a new venture? What if I fail? Performance fear. Should I fly? What if this plane crashes? Fear of the unknown.

It can paralyze your thinking and prevent any action that challenges it. Sometimes we need to face our fears.

If I were to solo travel I would go to Greece, Santorini Islands. They have these big blue domed houses facing the blue waters of the Aegean Sea, have beautiful sunsets, and at night the city is lit like a fairy tale. Walking through the narrow alleys of the city one feels like a Disney character.

Santorini is part of an archipelago called The Cyclades consisting of other popular tourist islands like Mykonos, Naxos to name a few.

Fun fact the island was formed due to one of the largest volcanic eruptions in history about 3700 years ago called Minoan eruption. There is a myth that considers Thira (Santorni) island to be the long lost Atlantis which was at the zenith of its civilization when it submerged under water described in the Timaeus written by famous Greek philosopher Plato.
